In early 2006, Father Stephen Mavely and Father Joseph Almeida held an initial meeting about the possibility of setting up this university. The entire 2006 year was a gestation period regarding establishing this university. On 10th January 2007, the General Council and the Rector Major of Don Bosco Society together gave their approval to begin establishment of this university. On 23rd October 2007, the presentation of this project was displayed to Shri Tarun Gogoi, the Honourable Chief Minister of Assam. On 29th March 2008, the Government gave the Letter of Intent to the Salesians of Don Bosco, due to which this day is remembered as the Foundation Day of Don Bosco University. On 27th June 2009, the AICTE approved the commencement of the MBA program, and the classes began on 12th August 2009.

On 6th December 2010, a Joint Committee (which consisted of Distance Education Council of India (DEC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and University Grants Commission (UGC)) authorised the Assam Don Bosco University to enter the field of distance education and recognised all its distance courses. In 2010, this university had 78 distance education students, and this number swelled to 6,000 after six years.

Assam Don Bosco University understands that students join higher education to begin a journey that culminates in a lucrative, satisfactory career. The aim of students is to land a dream job. ADBU takes tremendous efforts to bring this ambition to reality. It has an active placement cell, which believes that it is their responsibility to ensure a smooth transition of students from academic life to work life.

This university offers on-job training program to acquaint students with the professional world. It has a group of career counsellors that identifies the qualities, personal traits, aptitude and interests of students and uses this data to assist students to find their line of profession. The courses at ADBU have an active industry interface, which includes seminars, technical discourses and industry visits.

Scholarship / Loan

Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) has a noble aim of inspiring meritorious students to take advantage of the academic environment in the university. Another associated aim is to make it feasible for differently-abled persons and financially weaker persons to pursue higher education. To bring these aims to reality, this ADBU has began awarding scholarships that are of a gross amount of 4,67,92,000 INR. These scholarships are based on the following criteria:

  • Sports
  • Disability
  • Economic status
  • Merit

In addition, there is a scholarship for faculty and a ‘Scholarship Assistance Program.’
