New Delhi

Approved By : UGC

In 1989, the Government of India’s Ministry of Human Resource Development granted the ‘Deemed to be University’ status to the Jamia Hamdard University, New Delhi. This was in accordance with the University Grants Commission Act (1956), Section 3. After its establishment, the Jamia Hamdard University made considerable progress by multiplying the facilities for higher learning and diversifying the research and teaching courses in the following areas:

  • Management
  • Information Technology and Computer Science
  • Pharmaceutical Science and Unani Tibb
  • Biological Sciences

Currently, this university has a robust foundation of infrastructure for ensuring high-quality research and teaching.

The National Assessment and Accrediation Council (NAAC) of UGC has allocated Grade ‘A’ to this university. For this allocation, the NAAC has taken into account the contributions of all the faculties and department towards knowledge growth and the gross assessment of the performance of the university to manifest the mandate of the university. Presently, this university has international recognition with 10 percent students from foreign nations. With an aim of creating opportunities for learning to students in the current educational revolution in India, the university has taken the following definite steps:

  • Uplifting the education quality by including multimedia in the methods of teaching and learning
  • Broadening the reach of education by capitalising on the advanced features in information and communication technologies

The university has begun to implement courses in open and distance learning. The goal of these courses is to verify ‘independent learning’ to all people by overcoming the barriers of time and location through the adoption of innovative and flexible methods of education. The university has customised these courses so that students can learn at their own comfortable speed and convenience and eventually fulfil the learning goals. Students have to pay a small amount of money for this open and distance learning education. So, the educationally-backward chunk of the society can enrol in these courses.

When students complete the job-oriented and the professional courses of this university, they get Government-recognised diplomas and degrees. These diplomas and degrees have the same value as those diplomas and degrees of other Indian universities and international universities.
