The Nalanda Open University is the only institution in the State of Bihar designed specifically to deliver education via distant learning. An decree issued by the Bihar government in March 1987 founded the university. The Bihar Legislature later replaced the Ordinance with the Nalanda Open University Act, 1995, and the University automatically fell under the new Act’s authority and jurisdiction. The university is named after India’s renowned Nalanda University.
Any eligible person may submit an application for admission to one of the University’s available programmes. The admission form (Annexure-A) and prospectus may be received by sending a demand draft in the amount of Rs. 450.00, payable at Patna, to the university’s sales counters, or by sending a demand draft in the amount of Rs. 400.00, payable at Patna, by registered mail. No postal or money orders are accepted. The demand draft needs to be made out to Nalanda Open University with Patna as the destination. The University’s sales counters are open from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM every working day. Before the deadline for submitting forms, the admission form must be delivered personally or sent via registered mail to the Registrar, Nalanda Open University, 3rd Floor, Biscoumann Bhawan, Patna 800 001, Bihar. The deadline to apply for admission is August 31, 2019.
