University of Delhi

In 1962, the University of Delhi established ‘The School of Correspondence Courses and Continuing Education.’ This is a pioneer institute in the Indian Distance Education history. It is now known as the School of Open Learning (SOL), which is a section of the Campus of Open Learning.

In 1962, there was a modest admission of 900 students, but this marked the commencement of an alternate mode of education. By 2006-07, the admission was of more than two lakhs students. In the history of SOL, several students have become toppers in the respective disciplines. SOL conducts its admission process in accordance with the norms of the University of Delhi. Moreover, this University oversees the examinations of SOL. The conferment of the degrees to the students of SOL by the University of Delhi is identical to the conferment of the other constituent colleges. The curriculum of the constituent colleges and departments of the University of Delhi and the SOL is identical. In 1990-91, there was a need to address the rising number of admissions in SOL, for which the SOL commenced the South Study Center at Moti Bagh. As the student count is continuously increasing, SOL intends to commence Study Centers in the Western part and the Eastern part of the National Capital Region of Delhi.

SOL conducts UG and PG degree courses in subjects such as Commerce, Humanities and Arts. It prepares printed course material and send it by email to the enroled students. It also has a Personal Contact program. The study centres of SOL run this program, which benefits the students. SOL has adopted the distance education mode, which is being increasingly embraced by students who are in pursuit of a flexible method of instruction that can impart them higher education and vocational skills.

In addition, SOL has a holistic library that offers a broad exposure to contemporary advancements in various streams. SOL appoints an able faculty at the main campus who is given the responsibility of effective academic interaction with students.

At UG level, DU SOL offers BA (P), BA (Hons.), and B.Com, B.Com (H) courses in various disciplines. 10+2 with the cognate subject and the desired percentage of marks is the minimum eligibility criteria for admission. The admission is completely merit-based. The candidates are called for document verification and seat allotment as per the cut off lists published from time to time during the admission
